Today Gary is an Emmy award-winning newscaster who has also earned dozens of state and regional awards.

Gary has built a reputation for his political reporting as producer/moderator of several debates as well as firsthand experience with exclusives both at the White House and on the campaign trail. shave for the braveGary is also very active in the community with his commitment to children’s literacy issues and veteran’s organizations. His work with Honor Flight has been among his most passionate projects helping raise awareness and funds to send area veterans on a trip of a lifetime on an honor flight tour of the monuments and memorials in D.C.

His children’s book Saluting Grandpa was inspired by his stories on Honor Flight. Cody and Grandpa’s Christmas Tradition was published in 2016 (a tribute to Vietnam Veterans). Until Daddy Comes Home was published in 2014 (focus on active service members and the difficulties their children face). All proceeds from Gary’s books go to veterans issues.

“My writing for children gives me another creative outlet outside of news,” Gary says. “My books are my way of giving back through the funds we raise and the issues we highlight. I love to be part of something that can inspire the next generation to use their talents to make a difference.” He has presented at more than 400 area schools. Gary holds a Master’s Degree in Writing for Children and Young Adults (Hamline 2014).
