The following statement was issued by officials from the major commands at the Rock Island Arsenal:
Like the rest of the Department of the Army, the Arsenal is in the midst of a storm of fiscal constraints that could affect our readiness, our soldiers, their families, our DA civilians and could potentially impact our local Quad City community.
Across the Arsenal, there are a number of term employees that will be released as part of the DoD directive. Army Sustainment Command released the bulk of its temporary or term employees in September. The Joint Manufacturing and Technology Center is a special case, in which a release of temporary and term employees at the end of March came because of a decline in workload stemming from the drawdown in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The tenant commands at Rock Island Arsenal have diverse plans for addressing the release of temporary and term employees. All share the goal of maintaining the mission of the Arsenal locally, and the worldwide missions of its tenant commands.
