Update: On Thursday, April 10, 2014, a Scott County jury found 18-year-old Ricardo Ramon Bernal, guilty of first degree arson. Bernal will be sentenced in May.
In the arson case again Drew Whitehorn, a mistrial was declared. The Scott County Attorney's Office will determine the future prosecution of Whitehorn.
Both men faced trial following an incident on September 3, 2013. The men were charged with dumping gasoline on the porch of an occupied Davenport home and setting it on fire.
Davenport police have released information about an arson and drug investigation that brought the tactical unit to a home on Marquette St. this week.
Officers were seen surrounding the home in the 1500 block of Marquette around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2013. They were there to conduct a search of the home. They also had information that there were weapons inside.
The investigation began Sept. 3, when 18-year-old Ricardo Bernal is accused of pouring gasoline on the front porch of a home in the 700 block of E. 14th Street and lighting it on fire. He told police he set the fire in retaliation for not being paid for drugs. An adult and four children were inside the home at the time.
Police gathered information and got a search warrant for Bernal's home on Marquette St. They say they found over 10 pounds of marijuana, evidence of drug dealing, along with two loaded weapons. Bernal was taken into custody and charged with 1st degree arson, drug possession and delivery and conspiracy to commit a felony.
Another suspect, 19-year-old Drew Whitehorn of Parkview is also charged with arson.
Tyler Overman of Davenport is charged with a felon in possession of a firearm.
