Two Aledo Officers Face Sex Abuse Charges

Two Aledo police officers face felony charges involving minors. They turned themselves in and are out on bond. Aledo Police Chief Michael Sponsler says his department received a complaint on December third about an inappropriate relationship between an officer and a juvenile. He turned the case over to the Illinois State Police.

Its investigation led to charges for 30-year-old Seth Degelman and 32-year-old Steven Bonynge. Degelman faces one count of indecent solicitation of a child. Bonynge faces one count of aggravated criminal sexual abuse.

Degelman’s charge is a class three felony which carries up to five years in prison. Bonynge’s charge is a class two felony which carries up to seven years in prison.

Both officers were able to post bond, which was set at $40,000 dollars for each of them.

The Mercer County States Attorney is now handling this case. His office was closed when the charges were announced Friday afternoon.

A state police spokesman says the officers were charged in separate incidents.

The court docket says Degelmen will appear in court on January 14, 2015 at 10:00 a.m.
