Davenport Officer Discharges Weapon During Traffic Stop

DAVENPORT, Ia. – During a traffic stop, a Davenport police officer discharged his weapon, causing a traffic closure of the area around Central Park and Harrison St.

Davenport police received a report of a hit and run near 35th and Marquette. Upon locating the vehicle described, a black BMW which had struck two vehicles, an officer in a fully marked squad car stopped the suspect. The car turned south on Scott St. and struck another car.

The officer’s verbal commands to the driver were not followed and the officer fired a shot at the driver.

There were no injuries as a result of the shot being fired. The driver was taken into custody.

The officer’s name is not being revealed and the officer has been placed on administrative leave as directed by Department Policy. The sheriff’s department will investigate the incident.
