Man wanted for DeWitt shooting captured in Colorado

DEWITT, Iowa (KWQC) – A man wanted in connection with a shooting outside the Dewitt police station has been arrested in Denver.

On August 28, 2015 officials issued arrest warrants for 26-year-old Alejandro Andres Lira for his role in the August 11, 2015, shooting of Michael Dewispelaere. The shooting happened around 11:11pm in front of the DeWitt Police Department.

Police say during the evening hours of September 4, 2015, Lira was located in Denver, and arrested by the Denver Area Fugitive Task Force. He is currently housed in the Denver County jail awaiting extradition.

Lira was arrested on the charge of 2nd degree kidnapping, a class B felony, 1st degree robbery, a class B felony and attempted murder, a class B felony. A class B felony is punishable by up to 25 years in prison.
