DAVENPORT, Iowa (KWQC) – Habitat for Humanity celebrated a milestone in the Quad Cities on Saturday.
The organization broke ground on their 100th house. The celebration took place at the Girls and Boys Club office near the building site, but this soon to be home had unique sponsors. Almost 75 individual people donated to the building process. Some of the donors were at the event to celebrate with the partner family.
“Yeah normally we would go out and solicit businesses and foundations and churches,” said Dougal Nelson, Director of Development for Habitat for Humanity QC. “This time we decided to make it a little special, so we asked for 100 volunteers to donate one thousand dollars each. I’m proud to say today we are only 7 thousand dollars away from that goal.”
Theo Tapoayi, a member of the partnering family, was overwhelmed by the whole experience. “I didn’t choose the quad cities. Can I say the quad cities chose me? I don’t know, but God just made everything possible. I can’t find the right word, I’m just thrilled.”
