UPDATE: 9-15-16: The charge against 66-year-old Clifford Andersen has been elevated from a class 4 felony to a class 3 felony. The charge is concealment of a homicidal death.
UPDATE 9-14-16: Illinois State Police announced that on Sept. 13, 2016, officers searched a home in the 200 block of 8th St. in Standard,, Ill. looking for evidence in the case and interviewed three people. They added, that 66-year-old Clifford Andersen is now charged with concealment of a death. Police emphasized that the investigation is still open and encourage anyone with information to come forward and contact police.
STANDARD, Ill. (KWQC) — After over three weeks, the fate of a central Illinois woman is now known. The Illinois State Police say dental records show the body discovered in a shallow grave in Standard, Ill. to be that of 62-year-old Deborah K. Dewey of Ladd, Ill.
Dewey was last seen on Monday, August 22, 2016, in Spring Valley, Ill. A week later, on Monday, August 29, 2016, Dewey’s gray 2007 Buick LaCrosse, was found unlocked at the TA Truck Stop on Illinois Route 47, just north of I-80.
On Monday, September, 12, 2016, Illinois State Police and the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office searched a residence located at 5th Street and Illinois Route 71 in Standard, Ill. During the search of the residence and surrounding property, investigators exhumed a body from a shallow grave located in the yard of the residence.
The body was transported by the Putnam County Coroner to Bloomington, Illinois, for an autopsy by the Medical Examiner’s Office. The preliminary results of the autopsy indicated the body to be that of Dewey, verified through dental records.
The Illinois State Police say the search for the whereabouts of Dewey has now ended and the case is now considered a homicide investigation.
Assisting agencies include the ISP Intelligence Support Unit, ISP Digital Crimes Unit, STIC, ISP Crime Scene Services, ISP District 17, Illinois Conservation Police, Bureau County Sheriff’s Office, LaSalle County Sheriff’s Office, LaSalle County State’s Attorney’s Office, Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, Ladd Police Department, and Kane County Sheriff’s bloodhound unit.
