QUAD CITIES-The American Queen Steamboat company has purchased the Isle of Capri Casino Boat. The company also announced plans to use it as a platform for a new cruise ship.
Officials say the boat will be renovated, a third deck will be added, and a working paddle wheel will be installed.
The new ship would set sail for shorter voyages than the American Queen involving a greater number of overnight stays.
Ted Sykes, president, American Queen Steamboat Company said that the new boat would be characterized by large suites that would include three owner’s suites spanning about 550 square feet. Apart from that, it would also be equipped with 550-square-foot loft suites. It will also showcase a unique layout that can only be observed on river cruise vessels that are based in Europe, according to Sykes.
Sykes also said that the decks over the ship would be 19.5 feet tall. Two dining venues would grace the ship and be known as the Grill Room, that can accommodate 80 people, as well as a Grand Dining Room that would be able to accommodate all passengers of the ship.
American Queen Steamboat Company is planning to launch three cruise ships in 2017.
