Lace Up Your Lederhosen for Newest 5K in the Quad-Cities
The Lederhosen 5K presented by UnityPoint Health – Trinity is Saturday, October 1 at 9:30 a.m. Schwiebert Riverfront Park in downtown Rock Island.
You’re encouraged to dress up for the run/walk in your best lederhosen or dirndl. Kids aren’t left out with their own half-mile fun run called the Kinderlauf at 9:00 a.m. Register at www.Lederhosen5K.com.
The Oktoberfest Post-Race Party is open to the public until 3:00 p.m. There will be Oktoberfest beers, German food, music, games for kids and adults, and fun!
Tickets are $12 for adults (over 21) and it includes 5 sample tickets for a flight of Oktoberfest/German beers and a traditional meal with choice of bratwurst or hot dog, sauerkraut, German potato salad, and red cabbage cole slaw. Additional glasses of beer and food are available at a separate cost. Kids admission is FREE when accompanied by an adult. Kids meals can be purchased on-site. Tickets also available at the gate.
The proceeds benefit the Church of Peace’s food pantry mission. Last year, the food pantry served over 1,600 families and supplied over 38,000 pounds of food.
The Church of Peace United Church of Christ has been located in Rock Island since 1895. Founded by German immigrants, the church was originally called Deutsche Evangelicalische Friedens Gemeinde or German Evangelical Peace Church. In 1912, the congregation built the church at its current location on 12th Street and 12th Avenue. The church is involved in outreach efforts through its Book Nook, Meal Program site, Peacepals literacy tutoring program, ESL Classes, Immigrant Cancer Education, Diapers for Baby Jesus, and Saturday food pantry. www.ChurchofPeaceUCC.org
