Rock Island City manager to step down

ROCK ISLAND, Ill (KWQC) – The departure of Rock Island City Manager Thomas Thomas is on the agenda for the upcoming city council meeting. A letter published in the agenda reads: “Dear Mayor Pauley and City Council Members: After over 5 years of service to the City of Rock Island, it is time for me to pursue other opportunities and interests. I will step down from my position as City Manager for the City of Rock Island on September 20, 2016.”

The letter goes on to discuss six months of severance pay and other benefits. It’s not clear if that will be carried out. We are trying to get more information from city officials.

The Rock Island City Council meeting is scheduled for Mon. Sept. 19, 2016.

The news comes just over a week after Wal-Mart backed out of plans to build a store in Rock Island.
