BETTENDORF, Ia. (KWQC) – Today many people around the Quad Cities gathered to watch the start of the demolition process on the former Lodge Hotel. The city granted demolition permission to the developers this summer while discussions regarding development agreement language continue. Many say they have fond memories of the former hotel and are sad to see it go. Former employee, Lorena McCants said she credits The Lodge for giving her the knowledge to work in the hotel business.
“I think part of me is going to die a little bit because like I said I spent a lot of time and a lot of holidays here you know a lot of good memories and a lot of good laughs and you know it’s a piece of a Quad City history that’s being torn down.”
Many also argue that the building was becoming an eyesore and that it was time for demolition.
” It looks brittle, it’s a sad day you know but we need change and hopefully something wonderful will happen again,” said Lisa Smith.
Currently, there are no plans on what will be built in place of the former Lodge Hotel. The construction company plans to have the land leveled out by the end of the year.
