ROCK ISLAND, Ill. (KWQC) – A few special guests were outside the Rock Island Academy Monday morning to celebrate what’s billed as Father’s Bring Your Kids to School Day. Dad’s gathered around the building to greet students as they came into school.
It’s part of the national Million Father March and organizers say the goal is to get dad’s involved in the community by showing them in a positive light to students.
“It motivates them because one word or moment can charge a child’s life. And so this is just to see the men together, to see them standing strong together they need to see positive images like this more often,” said Quiana Whitt, special education teacher at Rock Island Academy.
The national event was first started in Chicago, as a way to increase male participation in schools and display unity within the community.
