Neighbors concerned after Bettendorf burglary

BETTENDORF, Ia. (KWQC)- Neighbors in one Bettendorf neighborhood are on edge after burglars entered a home Sunday evening. The incident happened in the 2900 block of Halcyon Drive, a residential area west of Devils Glen Road and just south of middle road.

Trish and Dean Wendt have lived in the neighborhood for over 30 years. The couple was on vacation during the robbery and feared that their own home might be in danger.

“My neighbors texted me Sunday morning and said that there had been a robbery on this street and she knew we were out-of-town because we are very, very good about letting each other know when we are gone and kind of watch each others houses.”

When the couple returned from their vacation they had realized they left three windows unlocked on the first level of their home. Bettendorf Police Chief, Phil Redington, said this is a common mistake many residents make this time of year.

“What we want residents to do is even if it is a nice evening to make sure all of their windows are locked especially if it’s a two-story residence,” said Redington.  “I think that might be more attractive to a burglar because they assume the homeowners are sleeping upstairs but make sure the windows are shut and locked.”

The Bettendorf Police Department is still investigating the incident. Anyone with more information is asked to contact the police department.
