PORTLAND, Ore. (KWQC) – A spider picked the wrong time and place to suddenly appear early Wednesday morning.

The creature dropped from a woman’s rearview mirror as she was driving down an Oregon highway, causing her to veer off the road and flip her car.

“She just panicked,” says Sgt. Bob Ray with the Washington County Sheriff’s Department.

Sgt. Ray says the woman, 45, was not seriously injured and will be okay, adding, “this is a good reminder that distracted driving is a leading cause of accidents.”

Yes, but this distraction was a totally unexpected, out-of-nowhere spider.

“Even though something like a spider is unexpected, it’s important to expect the unexpected, like a spider or spilling hot coffee, when you’re behind the wheel and have a plan in place in case something like that happens,” Sgt. Ray tells KWQC.

Duly noted.

And, in a Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2016 tweet, the Washington County Sheriff’s Department reminded drivers, “Spider season [is] in full swing.”
