Prosecutor accused of sex harassment, drinking during trial

KEOSAUQUA, Iowa (AP) — Supervisors in a southeast Iowa county are trying to remove the county’s chief prosecutor, accusing him of sexually harassing female employees.

The Des Moines Register reports that a lawyer for the Van Buren County board filed a petition in district court in Keosauqua on Thursday against County Attorney Abraham Watkins. He didn’t immediately return an Associated Press call Friday.

The action is based on a state law that lets judges remove elected officials for misconduct in office.

The petition says Watkins has commented about a female county employee’s body and appeared at work “in the presence of female county employees wearing nothing below the waist except a pair of underwear.”

The petition also says Watkins appeared drunk at a trial in which he was the prosecutor.
