Gary Metivier wins Emmy for journalism

DAVENPORT, Iowa (KWQC) – A big congratulations goes out to Gary Metivier and KWQC Photojournalist Kevin Kohr for winning an Emmy Saturday night from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences: Mid-America Chapter!

Gary and Kevin were nominated for their story “Liam’s Long Journey Home” that aired in May of 2015. The story won the Human Interest – Program/Special category.

On October 1, 2016, KWQC News Director Rich Kurz accepted Emmy awards on behalf of Gary Metivier and Kevin Kohr.

“Liam’s Long Journey Home” was a TV6 special about a little boy from Rock Island, Illinois who came down with a sudden illness that puzzled doctors. The sickness led to a long battle as Liam fought for his life.

Gary had another nomination for his story “A Family’s Honor.” Morgan Ottier also had a 2016 Emmy nomination for her story “Midwest Fungus, Deadly Disease.”
