KNOX COUNTY, Ill. (KWQC) — The Sheriff’s Office is warning people of a scam. They say a Knox County resident reported that they received a letter from the Publishers Clearing House that said they had won a substantial amount of money.
Enclosed with the letter was a “partial winnings” check. The check was not made out by Publishers Clearing House, but by a cutting tool company called Contour360. The letter and check were a scam.
Attached are images of the letter, envelope and check. Please pass this information along to your family and friends. The elderly are at the highest risk of falling for these types of scams.
Officials say if you receive something like this that you should dispose of it by shredding it or burning it so that it will not be obtained by someone else. They also ask that the public share this information with their friends and family, especially their elderly family members.
