Rock Island County Sheriff’s Department uses Narcan to save a life

Carbon Cliff, Ill.- The Rock Island County Sheriff’s Department says a deputy used Narcan to save a life on Tuesday.

A call came in at 12:30 Tuesday afternoon of an unconscious female in the 100 block of 5th Street in Carbon Cliff.

When deputies arrived they found the woman unconscious in the driver’s seat of a vehicle.  A witness told police she believed the woman had overdosed on heroin.  The deputy could not see the victim breathing or find a pulse, and administered Narcan.

The deputy was then able to find a pulse in the victim’s wrist.  Paramedics than arrived and gave a second dose of Narcan.  On the way to the hospital the victim became alert.

According to The Rock Island County Sheriff’s Department the Narcan program began there just 4 weeks ago.  They say this event is proof that the program saves lives.
