Neighbors and family help clean up after EF-1 tornado damages parts of Davenport

DAVENPORT, Iowa (KWQC)- A confirmed EF-1 tornado touched down in West Davenport and traveled twenty miles northeast to Cordova, Illinois.

Some of the worst damage was along Elm Street near Belle Avenue and Mound Street.

Elliot Hankes has lived along Elm Street for over forty-five years, he had family members helping him clean up on Friday.

“I couldn’t do it, I’m retired, I’m handicapped,” Hankes said. “I couldn’t do this stuff myself.”

His house sits directly across from the Forsbergs. Tori and Scott have lived there for eight years and have never seen a storm like the one that went through on Thursday night.

Tori’s brother is traveling eight hours from Southern Missouri to help the Forsbergs clean up.

In the meantime, neighbors have been helping. They cleaned the front of the Forsberg residents, while Scott and Tori cleaned up the back.

“I’m just overwhelmed,” said Scott Forsberg. “I don’t even know the people who came down here to help.”
