Chicago man faces attempted murder charges in Dubuque shooting

DUBUQUE, Iowa (KWQC) – Steven K. Burrell now faces attempted murder charges after a shooting in Dubuque, Iowa.

On October 4, 2016 Dubuque Police responded to a home on the 500 block of West 8th Street to reports of shots fired. The call came in at 2:40 p.m. Witnesses directed officers to a wooded area on the south side of 8th Street and said one of the individuals involved was seen running that way.

Officer located Steven K. Burrell, 21, from Chicago, hiding in the woods. Officers also found two handguns, shell casings, and damaged to a parked vehicle.

Burrell was arrested and initially charged with reckless use of a firearm. He also had an out-of-state warrant for his arrest. After a police investigation, the Dubuque County Attorney upgraded Burrell’s charged to attempted murder. He is being held without bond in the Dubuque County Jail.

According to the police, the investigation is ongoing and additional charges are probable.
