ROCK ISLAND, Illinois (KWQC) – October is breast cancer awareness month and one local salon is raising funds for Susan G. Komen Quad Cities.
Wearing pink hair extensions to raise awareness and donations for breast cancer research and patients, is a fad that that is spreading locally. This month, Lavish Salon and Spa in Rock Island, Illinois has decided to sell two types of extensions, all to raise funds for Breast Cancer.
Both types of extensions are temporary and involve a simple process to secure in one’s hair. The smaller option, single-strand extensions, are available through a $6 donation. The larger option, tape in extensions, are available with a $15 donation.
Salon Owner Amy Gibbs said many of the stylists at the salon had been impacted, or knew someone who was impacted, by breast cancer. This, Gibbs says, is the reason they decided to take action.
“We put our heads together here and thought of extensions and what a fun way to, you know, to give back to the community, but walk out of here with a little fashion statement and conversations piece,” said Gibbs.
The salon’s goal is to raise $1,000. The extensions are available to anyone through the end of October. If you are interested, you can go to their salon located at 1806 3rd Ave in Rock Island, or call their number, (309) 283-7160).
