ROCK ISLAND, Ill. (KWQC) – Another new housing development is ready for homeowners in the heart of Rock Island. The Rock Island Economic Growth Corp. held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Fri. Oct. 14, 2016 to mark the opening of the Garden District. It’s made up of seven single-family detached homes.
The affordable homes were built on a vacant lot, not far from another city housing development, Jackson Square. The Garden District homes range in size from 1,400 to 1,700 square feet with prices starting at $149,900 going up to $215,900. Two of the units are targeted toward what’s called live-work households.
The housing development is close to parks and employers, such as the Rock Island Arsenal. The units have some unique features including a special water system for fire safety as well as long-lasting, energy efficient metal rooftops.
Not only are the homes kept at lower cost, Growth Corp. also offers down payment assistance ranging from $5000 to 10,000.
