North Carolina GOP office damaged by fire and vandalism

HILLSBOROUGH, NC (NBC) – A retail complex housing a Republican party office in North Carolina was damaged by fire and graffiti overnight.

Authorities say someone threw a bottle filled with flammable liquid through the window of the Orange County Republican Party headquarters in Hillsborough.

They say the substance ignited and damaged furniture before burning out.

Campaign signs and even an American flag were covered in black ashes.

Authorities say an adjacent building was spray-painted with the words “Nazi Republicans leave town or else.”

No one was injured, but a security alert is being sent to party offices around the state.

Local police and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives are investigating the incident.

Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton sent out a tweet regarding the incident saying, “The attack on the Orange County NCGOP headquarters is horrific and unacceptable. Very grateful everyone is safe.”
