EAST MOLINE, Ill. (KWQC) — Firefighters were called to the 3500 block of 3rd St. C around 5:30 a.m. Tuesday for a house on fire. Before they could arrive, East Moline police officer, Lieutenant Steve Pacat, responding to the mutual aid call used a neighbor’s garden hose to put the fire out.
“I asked them if they had a hose,” said Lt. Pacat. “They got the hose reeled to me, and I used the hose put out as much as I could, knocked down the flames until it looked like it was out.”
The neighbors that called the fire in were the homeowner’s parents. Crews on scene say the owner was on his way to work when the call came in.
Crews also say the fire and smoke damaged the living room of the home, which was unoccupied at the time of the fire. Lt. Pacat was able to put a majority of the fire out quickly, but firefighters stayed on scene to check for hot spots and air out the home.
