QUAD CITIES, Iowa & Illinois (KWQC) – It’s getting to be the time of year! The fall color is approaching its most vibrant stage around the Quad Cities.
Peak color in Iowa and Illinois varies by location. Places along Highway 20 usually see their peak color through late September into early and mid October. Spots in the metro and along I-80 see the brightest fall foliage in mid to late October. Finally, cities and towns along Highway 34 don’t typically see that color change until late October.
Weather plays a big role in when the leaves turn and how vibrant to colors actually are. The color change in the Quad Cities has been on a bit of a delay this season. That is likely due to the extended period of warm weather into the beginning of fall.
