DAVENPORT, Iowa (KWQC) — It’s been almost two weeks since multiple tornadoes tore through the QCA on Thursday night, October 6, 2016. The next morning there were many reports of buildings and property being damaged and those reports are still coming in.
The EF-1 tornado that touchdown in Davenport caused substantial damage to the roof of the the Big Brothers Big Sisters building located downtown at 130 W 5th St.
Pictures of the damage show where the wind pulled the support beams out of the brick walls. In some of the damaged areas, light can be seen coming in where the roof pulled away from the walls.
Engenieers are planning to open up the in order to get the beams back put back in place. The building was built in 1874 and si on the national register of historic places. We are told insurance will cover most of the cost of the repairs.
