ROCK ISLAND, Ill. (KWQC) – Fifty is nifty! Ten couples at Edgewood Baptist Church in Rock Island are celebrating Golden Anniversaries. This year marks their 50th wedding anniversaries. Pastor Brian Bill reminds them that marriage is a journey.
Diane Carnithan and her husband David were married as teenagers. She was eighteen. David was nineteen. She graduated from Augustana College. David was employed at Farmall.
Diane says God has sustained them through some tough times. Their daughter was hit by a car. Diane battled cancer. Through it all, the couple says their faith has been a stronghold.
Janet and Paul Janecek met at the University of Illinois. She asked Paul out. He was in the Army ROTC at the time. In twenty one years, the couple moved thirteen times. Marriage, they say, is a daily commitment.
Paul eventually retired as a Lieutenant Colonel from the Rock Island Arsenal. Paul says he and his wife pray for others and each other. Prayer is a constant in their marriage.
