Genesis ‘tops off’ hospital expansion project

Davenport, Iowa (KWQC) – Genesis Medical Center is celebrating progress on a multi-million dollar expansion project with a topping off ceremony. During the event, a crane placed the highest beam on top of the building, located off Rusholme St. on the Genesis East Campus in Davenport. Before the beam was hoisted into place, it was signed by about 2,000 Genesis employees.

The event also provided an update on the project, which began four years ago. The project manager says they are on schedule and on budget, but there is still about six months of work to do.

“The next stop they’re working on is, you can see with these big lifts, the exterior of the building. They’re getting the siding on, the brick on, the glazing on and at the same time, we’re on the side of the building,” said Mike Sharp, V.P. of Construction and Design for Genesis.

The construction project is adding more amenities for patients and staff, and a new tower building, with nearly 70 in-patient beds.
