CLINTON, Iowa (KWQC) — Retired teachers. Nurses. A former radio station office manager. All are members of the female singing group The Clintones.
The Clintones celebrate their forty seventh anniversary with a concert on October 23rd at Chancy Lutheran Church in Clinton. It begins at two o’clock.
Thirty six women perform in the group. Ellen Ketelsen is an original member. The singers come from Clinton, Camanche, Fulton and Goose Lake.
Ona Chaney is the director. The former music teacher says singing is an emotional release. Ninety Five year old Mary Winn sings second soprano. She is a former director who thinks performing is all about teamwork.
The ladies sing show tunes, golden oldies, hymns, and other popular songs. The group does about forty performances a year, entertaining at care centers, reunions, festivals and other activities.
Organized in 1969, The Clintones are preparing for Sunday’s concert. A “singing sorority” with a track record of vocal excellence!
