Fire closes Highway 67

Preemption Fire

UPDATE: Witnesses on scene say that the fire happened in a garage in a residential area of Preemption. Police have now reopened Highway 67.

No information on how the fire started is being released at this time, but the Sherrard Fire Chief says that the Illinois State Fire Marshal will inspect the scene due to a large amount of damage.

First responders from Matherville, Orion, Coyne Center, Aledo, and Sherrard responded to this fire. There were no injuries.

MERCER COUNTY, Ill. (KWQC) – Police have temporarily shut down Highway 67 in Mercer County.

The Mercer County Sheriff’s Office says that a fire in Preemption, Illinois has forced them to block off Highway 67 until further notice.

There is currently no word on where exactly the fire is or how long the the highway will be closed.
