Burlington man arrested after breaking into occupied home

BURLINGTON, Iowa (KWQC) – One man has been arrested after breaking into an occupied home in broad daylight.

At approximately 12:41 p.m., Burlington Police responded to a call of a burglary in progress in the 800 block of South 10th Street. The home was occupied at the time.

The woman who was home said she had seen a lone man pacing in front of her house before he attempted to gain entry. She said he had forced entry into her house.

When officers arrived, they observed a man fleeing the residence. The suspect was identified as 46-year-old Steven Freeman of Burlington. He attempted to flee on foot, but was taken into custody.

Detectives located property that had been stolen from the house in the area of his attempted escape. They also located a second residence in the area that the suspect attempted to break into to escape.

Freeman was charged with two felonies: Burglary in the 2nd degree and Attempted Burglary in the 3rd Degree. He was transported to the Des Moines County Jail where he remains held on a $10,000 bond pending a court appearance on October 25th.
