DAVENPORT, Iowa (KWQC) – It’s been a good year for the Chicago Cubs.
“It’s a good feeling, lots of old, die-hard Cubs fans that finally got their wish,” Larry Oetzmann, a Cubs fan from Donahue, said.
“This is the year, we’re going to do it,” Nic Ponce, a Cubs fan from Coal Valley, added.
Caraline Coleman, the assistant merchandising manager for JCPenney, says it’s also been a good year for the team’s merchandise sales.
“We have definitely seen an influx in purchases since the Cubs have been doing so great this season and we’ve just recently landed some National League merchandise and we are awaiting our World Series merchandise that is en route right now,” Coleman said.
Coleman says those sales are similar to Iowa Hawkeye sales last year.
“It’s just it’s so cool to see some local team kind of really get to shine and it’s their year so we’re excited to help support that and get our customers the Cubs merchandise,” she said.
A lot of different things, shirts, caps, anything you need. Go Cubs!” Oetzmann said.
Coleman says the day after the big win brought in a constant flow of fans, all there to pick up World Series caps and National League Championship shirts.
“I picked out the National League Champions, going to get the World Series cap next week,” Oetzmann said.
Coleman says they plan on getting about 900 more World Series merchandise for Cubs supporters Monday, so they can be geared up and ready to go for Chicago’s first trip to the World Series in more than 70 years.
“I’ve been waiting for this moment forever,” Ponce said.
“I’m just glad and I hope and pray that they take the series, they deserve it,” Mary Spriet, a Cubs fan from Davenport, said.
Game 1 of the World Series will be played Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Cleveland.
