DAVENPORT, Iowa (KWQC) – Davenport students held a special assembly to honor local veterans. A class at North High School organized the event, that included music, a local honor guard and Patriot Guard riders, all to thank 19 veterans who attended schools in the Quad Cities. Four of them died while serving in Iraq and received special recognition:

Sergeant Bradley S. Korthaus – USMC – Died in Iraq – 24 March 2003
Private First Class Katie Marie Soenksen U.S. Army – Died in Iraq – 2 May 2007
Corporal Jason Graham Pautsch – U. S. Army – Died in Iraq – 10 April 2009
Private First Class Nicholas Maloy Skinner – USMC – Died in Iraq – 26 August 2004

“What we’re kind of going for, and what were hoping these people understand, is it may not have been right away that we recognized your family member who died for us, but we just want the families to know we care,” said North High School sophomore Tyler Bishop.

North High School was also presented with a four gold star banner to hang in the building’s front window.
