Victim ID’d in Rock Island standoff/shooting-UPDATED

UPDATE: Police have identified the victim in Monday’s Rock Island shooting. She has been identified as 91-year-old Helen Elliot of Rock Island. A preliminary autopsy by the Rock Island coroner shows Elliot died as the result of a shotgun wound to the chest and abdomen.

The investigation into Elliot’s death is ongoing. The identity of the second person who was injured and taken to the hospital has not been released.

UPDATE: A Rock Island neighborhood is secure and residents are safe after a shooting that left one dead and another injured.

Police received a call in regards to a suicidal subject at 12:52 p.m. on Monday, October 24 in the 3900 block of 20th Avenue. The suicidal subject had called a relative, and the relative called police.

Rock Island Police say they responded, but could not make contact with the subject inside the house. Police secured the area and called an emergency response team, which also tried to make contact. When that also failed, they breached the door and entered.

At the scene, police found two victims with gunshot wounds. One of the victims was deceased. The other was transported by fire department to treatment.

The incident remains under investigation. The names of those involved will be released pending notification of family.

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. (KWQC) – A situation in Rock Island that had officers with tactical weapons outside a house near 39th Street and 20th Avenue in Rock Island, Illinois, ended around 3 p.m. today.

A witness told KWQC that police told them to get inside a house and take cover. That witness also said that one person was taken from a home on a stretcher that officers were now clearing the scene.
