DAVENPORT, Iowa (KWQC) — First responders were called the the scene of a head-on collision involving three vehicles. The accident happened on Wednesday October 26, 2016 around 6:21 a.m., on Locust Street at the Interstate 280 Interchange. There was heavy rain at the time with reduced visibility at the scene.
The first vehicle involved was eastbound on Locust Street, stopped in traffic, waiting for oncoming traffic to clear in order to turn north onto the I-280 westbound on-ramp. The next vehicle was traveling eastbound on Locust Street approaching this vehicle and failed to stop, striking the rear of this vehicle which pushed it to the south and off the road.
After the initial impact, the second vehicle veered into the westbound lane where it struck the third vehicle head-on in the westbound lane on Locust Street.
The driver of the third vehicle was taken to the hospital complaining of pain. Once there, police tell us it was discovered that the driver had sustained life threatening injuries during the crash and was transferred to Iowa City Hospitals for treatment.
