ROCK ISLAND, Ill. (KWQC) — More details have been released by the Rock Island Police Department concerning the standoff and shooting that occurred on Monday, October 24, 2016. Police say they received the 9-1-1 call around 12:52 p.m. reporting a suicidal person at 3900 20th Ave. They say that 94-year-old John A. Elliot had told a relative that he shot his wife, 91-year-old Helen N. Elliot and that he intended to kill himself.
Responding officers secured the home and tried to make contact with those inside, but met with ‘negative results.’ Police say the Emergency Response Team was activated and they forced entry into the home.
Police say Mrs. Elliot was found dead from a single gunshot wound. Mr. Elliot was found alive and suffering from multiple self-inflicted gunshot wounds in what has been determined to be a murder/suicide attempt.
The Mr. Elliot was transported from the scene by the Rock Island Fire Department to Unity Point, Rock Island, where he was later flown to OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Ill. He was later transported to Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, ill. where he died from his injuries on Friday, October 28, 2016.
