DAVENPORT, Iowa (KWQC) — Once a utility closet. This week it’s a temporary art studio. Carl and Sandra Bryant are masters in mosaic.
This week, the husband and wife from Washington State installed a stunning mosaic in the narthex at Saint Mark Evangelical Lutheran Church in Davenport. The mosaic is titled: Welcome to the Garden.
It is seven feet high and eleven feet wide. The artwork is a legacy gift from Charles and Catherine Wallace, longtime church members.
The artists hand-cut thousands of small pieces of stained glass. The mosaic depicts Christ in a garden with his arms outstretched. There are colorful flowers, a waterfall, animals and birds also included. Christ is inviting the congregation to experience His peace, love, and forgiveness.
The base of the mosaic includes a scripture verse from John 14:27. Mark Wallace is a son of the couple who donated the gift. He says the mosaic is like a prayer in art and his mother would have loved it.
The public dedication of the mosaic takes place on Sunday morning November 6th. The dedication is at nine thirty.
