DUBUQUE, Iowa (KWQC) — Police were called to a shots fired report early Sunday morning, October 30, 2016. The incident happened in the 500 block of Almond Street around 4 a.m. When officers arrived, several people were leaving the scene on foot and in vehicles.
Police say they learned that two females were at a party at 574 Almond Street and got into in a physical altercation outside the home. During the fight, a male subject allegedly fired several shots in the air while standing in the street.
Police say there were no injuries, property damage, or other physical evidence found, but they say credible witness accounts supported the story of the altercation.
One of the women involved in the fight, 23-year-old Brittany R. Walters, 23, of rural Dubuque, was arrested at the scene for public intoxication, disorderly conduct, and interference with official acts after she refused to comply with investigating officers. The investigation remains ongoing and officials say additional charges are likely.
At the same time as this incident, three officers were near 13th and Jackson Streets and heard the shots fired on Almond Street, and immediately thereafter heard a single gunshot very close in proximity to them. Officials believe the officers were the intended target of the single gunshot. No physical injuries were reported or property damage located.
