MONMOUTH, Iowa (KWQC) — The church bell still sounds. A welcome call throughout the tiny Jackson County town of Monmouth, Iowa. A call to worship.
Faith United Methodist Church Baldwin-Monmouth is one hundred fifty two years old. The church was built on the Iowa prairie by the pioneers more than a century ago.
Judy and Merle Paulsen pastor the church. The husband and wife have been a pastoral team in Monmouth since 2003. There are over one hundred members. Some travel from Maquoketa and Clarence to attend Sunday service.
The pews and altar rail are original. Part of the church history. There was a time when traveling pastors, the so call circuit riders, went from community to community to minister.
Over the years, many things in town have come and gone. Faith United Methodist remains. A shining light. A beacon of hope in the Iowa countryside.
