UPDATE: Gas line rupture forces evacuation of some Moline businesses

UPDATE: The area that was closed due to the leak is now open. The businesses affected earlier in the day are safe to visit.

MOLINE, Ill. (KWQC) – Moline Police evacuated part of Moline after a gas line rupture on Thursday morning.

At approximately 9:44 am, Davenport Electric alerted Moline Police that 4″ medium pressure gas line ruptured in a construction area near the intersection of John Deere Road and 41st Street. Mid American and Moline Fire responded to the incident.

Numerous individuals in the area had to be evacuated by bus due to the amount of leaked gas. Patrons with vehicles were asked to leave Panera Bread, Burger King, and other area businesses until the gas line is repaired. The repair is expected to take several hours.

The Moline Police Department has reported that the evacuation was executed calmly and orderly. They would like to thank all those involved for their patience and understanding.
