DES MOINES, Iowa (KWQC) – The Iowa State Patrol is reporting people to be wary of any accounts that may be set-up seeking donations to the families of the two Des Moines metro police officers shot and killed this week.
According to the post, there are GoFund Me accounts said to be established by friends and family of Des Moines Police Department Sgt. Anthony Beminio and Urbandale police officer Justin Martin. Troopers say no accounts are being managed or authoritized by friends of family of the officers.
Instead, donations can be directed to a memorial account for the officers at the Des Moines Police Officers’ Credit Union, according to the ISP post.
Investigators believe the officers were shot and killed in separate incidents while sitting in their patrol cars early Wed., Nov. 2, 2016. The suspect, Scott Greene of Urbandale has been charged with two counts of first degree murder.
