DUBUQUE, Iowa (KWQC) – An alarming trend nationwide is now showing up in the Dubuque area. The Dubuque Drug Task Force reports indications that the drug, Carfentanil is starting to hit the streets in the community. Officials say Carfentanil is 100 times more potent than fentanyl, which is considered 50 times more potent than heroin.
Carfentanil and fentanyl are often mixed with heroin to increase it’s potency, which can lead to an overdose. Officials say not only are these drugs more powerful, even handling them can have deadly consequences.
In the Dubuque area, the drugs appear to be in the form of a white to tan powder. If you have any information about the drugs in the community, you’re asked to contact the Dubuque Drug Task Force.
