SCOTT COUNTY, Iowa (KWQC) – Saturday was National Adoption Day, and Scott County held an event today to celebrate.
Families came out to share stories and recognize those in the community who give their time through foster care and adoption. Mayor Frank Klipsch tells TV6 how Saturday’s event held a personal importance for him.
“As a grandfather with 10 grandkids and 4 of mine have been adopted, it’s really exciting to see other families really appreciating and enjoying all the great things that adoption brings to a family, but realizing something great is happening not only for the child, but also for the family that does the adoption.”
Mayor Klipsch also tells TV6 that there are nearly 100 kids in foster care in Iowa waiting to be placed in permanent homes, and 24 kids in Scott County alone. He says the goal is to get that number down to zero.
