DAVENPORT, Iowa (KWQC – It won’t be long until the winter chill sets in and area homeless shelters start filling up. Kings Harvest Homeless Shelter is getting ready by holding a Volunteer Training Class for its Winter Shelter. Volunteers can attend Tues., Nov. 15, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. at the shelter located at 824 W. 3rd St. in Davenport.
Kings Harvest Winter shelter runs from December 1st through April 15th. Anyone over the age of 18 is allowed to come inside for a warm place to sleep. Volunteers are vital in order for the shelter to run successfully. Volunteers are needed to help with check in, overnights and with bringing in snacks.
Kings Harvest has been closed since it was hit with an F1 tornado on October 6th. While much of the second and third floors remain unusable, the first floor repairs have been completed and they shelter will re-open its meal site on Sat., Nov. 12th.
Many of the other ministries are still closed but free weekly meals on Wednesdays and Fridays will resume from noon until 1 p.m. and on Saturdays from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. The Winter Homeless Shelter will open on the evening of December 1st. All other ministries will remain closed until further notice.
