Driver ID’d in rural Thomson, Ill. crash-UPDATED

UPDATE: Officials with the Carroll County Sheriff’s Department have identified the driver killed Wednesday morning as 31-year-old Jacob Goebel of Clinton, Iowa.

RURAL THOMSON, Ill. (KWQC) – The Carroll County Sheriff’s office is reporting one person dead after a crash involving a semi-truck and a passenger vehicle in rural Thomson.

At approximately 5:21 am on Wednesday, Nov. 9, the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office received a call reporting an accident on Argo Fay Rt, about a half mile east of Rt. 84 outside of Thomson.


The sheriff’s office is reporting that an eastbound grain semi-truck was waiting for oncoming traffic to clear before making a left turn into a farm driveway. It was then that the semi-truck was struck in the rear by an eastbound passenger car.

The driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the truck, 35-year-old Dustin Hook of Fulton, was not injured. The identity of the driver of the car is not yet being released pending notification of next of kin. Neither vehicle was carrying passengers.

This crash remains under investigation by the Carroll County Sheriff’s Department Accident Reconstruction Officer and the Carroll Count Coroner’s Office.
