COWDEN, Ill. (KWQC) – A young couple from a central Illinois town has been arrested after it was determined that their infant had injuries consistent with abuse.
Illinois State Police were called on November 1, 2016 to assist the Shelby County Sherrif’s Office with a potential abuse investigation. The 12-day-old infant from Cowden, Illinois had been brought to St. Anthony’s Hospital in Effingham, Illinois with unexplained injuries. The investigation determined the injuries to be consistent with child abuse, and the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) was contacted to assist.
The infant’s parents were arrested on Wednesday, November 9. 20-year-old Kayla N. Girard and 19-year-old Devan B. N. Porter are being charged with aggravated battery to a child.
Both subjects were incarcerated in the Shelby County Jail pending $100,000 bond, 10% applies.
