Quad Cities rowing team wins gold in national competition

QUAD CITIES (KWQC) – Rowers from the Y Quad Cities Rowing team brought home gold from the Head of the Hooch Regatta in Chattanooga, Tennessee this weekend.

One of the world’s largest rowing regattas, the competition held on November 5th and 6th awarded the team six medals in five events.

The quadruple sculls team, which won a fifth straight title by a 12-second margin (time 17:47), consisted of Pleasant Valley junior Caroline Sharis, Davenport Assumption senior Annie Phillips, Pleasant Valley freshman Taylor English, and Bettendorf senior Gabi Schermer.

Sharis won gold in the single sculls race after having finished in second place last year. It was the sixth straight year a Y Quad Cities rower has won the title.

The rest of the team includes Bettendorf seniors Sophie Muckenfuss and Cameron Blunk, Muckenfuss’s younger sister Ellie, Bettendorf sophomore Morgan Meghtol, Pleasant Valley freshman Brenna Morley, Pleasant Valley junior Justin English, PV freshman William Sharis,  and North Scott seniors Alan Romanick and Sam Normoyle.

In total, the team won two gold, one silver, and three bronze.
