Wastewater discharge released in DeWitt creek

Iowa-DNR

DEWITT, Iowa (KWQC) – The Iowa Department of Natural Resources reports a wastewater discharge in DeWitt. On Nov. 9, 2016, the DNR was alerted of a grease build-up in a pumping station at W. 11th St. According to a news release, officials say the clog caused about 150,000 gallons of untreated wastewater to discharge into Silver Creek.

DeWitt City staff members discovered the problem about 8 a.m., removed the grease, and restored normal operations about 20 minutes later.

Because of the discharge, the DNR recommends keeping children and pets away from Silver Creek for at least 24 hours.
