DAVENPORT. Iowa (KWQC) – The Scott County Democratic Party will choose their nominee tonight to run for the late Senator Joe Seng’s seat.
Senator Seng represented Senate District 45, which is comprised of a portion of Scott County.
The nominee will be selected at a nominating convention held Thursday, November 10, 2016 at West High School in Davenport, Iowa.
The decision will come down to a vote by Scott County Democrat Central Committee Members from Senate District 45.
Chair of the Scott County Democratic Party, Thom Hart, says he already knows a few people that are interested in the seat.
“Both the people in the House Districts have indicated an interest and I think there are also interest from others, ” said Hart. “Yeah I do expect there to be multiple people interested, I know that multiple people are interested.”
The nominee chosen on Nov. 10 will run against the Republican nominee, Mike Gonzales.
The special election is set for Tuesday, December 27, 2016, but Hart thinks the date could pose a challenge.
“It’s a pretty challenging time to have an election between Christmas and New years,” said Hart. “But we have had them in that context before and it will be mostly about absentee ballots I think.”
The Scott County Democrats nominating convention will be at 7 p.m. at West High School and is open to the public.
